Best Atlanta Spots for Family Photos (With Kids in Mind)
Choosing a location for your family session is one of the most important parts of the process — and one of the questions I get asked most. The truth is, the right spot does a lot of the heavy lifting. It sets the mood, keeps kids engaged, and gives everyone room to just be themselves. After years of shooting families all over Atlanta, these are the locations I come back to again and again. Whether you're drawn to a quiet neighborhood park or the heart of the city, there's a spot on this list for every family.
The right location makes everything easier — when kids have room to move and something beautiful to look at, the real moments happen on their own. Here are five of my favorites.
Winn Park — Midtown
Tucked into a quiet Morningside neighborhood, Winn Park has a soft, unhurried quality that families settle into quickly. The open lawn gives little ones room to roam, the light is flattering in every season, and the playground nearby is a great pre- or post-session bonus. Spring is especially beautiful here when the greenery is at its peak.
Piedmont Park — Midtown
Atlanta's most versatile park — and for good reason. The spring dogwoods are show-stopping, but winter brings its own magic: open fields, bare trees, and that unmistakable Atlanta skyline as a backdrop. There's a relaxed, familiar energy here that helps families loosen up fast, and the variety of backdrops means we never run out of fresh looks.
Morgan Falls Overlook Park — Sandy Springs
For families who want something a little different. The Chattahoochee River, rolling fall foliage, and wide open field give this park a depth that's hard to find anywhere else in Atlanta. The open field is great for movement and play, while the overlook with the wooden fence offers a more intimate portrait setting — two completely different looks in one location. Best in fall.
Mabry Park — East Cobb
A quiet, neighborhood-feel park with a wooden bridge, winding paths, open lawn, and beautiful fall light. It's not overwhelming — kids can run ahead, stop to explore, and just be themselves while parents relax into it. No landmarks, no busy plazas — just a warm, easy backdrop that keeps the focus where it belongs: on your family.
Centennial Olympic Park — Downtown Atlanta
If you want photos that unmistakably say Atlanta, this is it. The Georgia Aquarium, the city skyline, the open plaza — it's a bold, urban backdrop that's unlike any other spot on this list. Kids love the space to run and play, and the energy here comes through in every frame. It photographs beautifully in black and white too, with a real editorial edge.
